Nancy studied Foundation Art at High Wycombe College, then gained a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design at Preston Polytechnic where she won - highly commended – in the D&AD Awards (Design and Art Direction). She moved to London where she worked at the BBC and as a freelance designer at Dorling Kindersley, Penguin and Little Brown. She also spent time as a medical illustrator using various software packages. As a child she used to use her mother’s oil paints and having settled back into the Chilterns she now feels at home painting local scenes. Nancy is particularly inspired by landscapes and tries to portray a sense of place, light and composition using colour and brush marks.  She tries to paint outside as much as possible straight onto the canvas or else make watercolour or ipad sketches which can be worked up later at home. Nancy was inspired to start using the ipad following a visit to David Hockney’s “A Bigger Picture” exhibition and having worked with Macs previously she feels comfortable using this medium.
